About the Business
Derry /Londonderry is the second-biggest city in Northern Ireland and the fourth-biggest city in Ireland. Disagreement over the cities name continues to this day. Derry is one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in Ireland. The earliest historical references date to the 6th century when a monastery was founded by St. Columba but there had been statements in the area for thousands of year prior to this. Following a failed rebellion against the English crown in the 1530s, Henry VIII was declared King of Ireland by statute of the Irish parliament.
The town became strategically more significant during this period and came under frequent attack until it was destroyed in 1608 by Cahir O'Doherty, Irish chieftain of Inishowen. The Walls were built during the period 1613-1619 at a cost of £10,757 as defenses for early 17th century settlers from England and Scotland.
